The animation illustrates the binding of single stranded DNA to E. coli topoisomerase III. The animation was based on the structure of several intermediates obtained by x-ray crystallography. It is meant to illustrate a possible way the protein recognizes DNA and forms a competent active site by a series of conformational changes in both the protein and DNA.
