General Information:

The 13th Annual Midwest Stress Response and Molecular Chaperone Meeting will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2008 on the Evanston Campus of Northwestern University. This meeting will provide the opportunity for those interested in the areas of stress response, heat-shock proteins, and molecular chaperones to present their own work and learn from others working in this field. The meeting is organized by Richard Morimoto at Northwestern University and will be chaired by Jeffrey Brodsky of the University of Pittsburgh. Lila Gierasch of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst will be the keynote speaker. Talks by graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and new investigators will be featured as well as a poster session.

After the meeting on Saturday night, please join us at a dinner honoring David Smith and David Toft, who have been regular participants in this meeting since its inception and have made major contributions to our field as investigators at the Mayo Clinic. The "Two Davids" will soon be moving on to pursue other interests, and--as a community--we wish to thank them for all that they have done. This dinner will be held at a Mt. Everest, which is near the meeting site. (We have arranged for a buffet dinner. The cost is $20 per person for dinner and there will be a cash bar.)

Program and Poster Information:

PROGRAM: The meeting will start promptly at 8:55 AM (coffee, juice and bagels at 7:30 am) and end at 6:30 PM. A wine and hors d'oeuvre reception follows immediately after. You may download this year's schedule HERE.

The poster abstracts will be in the program book, which everyone will receive on Saturday. If you would like an advance look at them, the abstracts are provided below.

You may download abstracts for the posters here. HERE.

POSTER: Poster space dimensions are 4 feet wide by 4 1/2 feet high. Push pins will be provided. The Poster Session will be held in the Pancoe Cafe on the 2nd floor of the Pancoe-ENH Life Sciences Pavilion. (Looking out the front door of the Allen Center, the Pavilion is to the right, across the road and just a few seconds away).

Directions:

We will hold the meeting at the James L. Allen Center as we have in the last few years, and the poster session will be held next door at the Pancoe-ENH Pavilion. The Allen Center is at 2169 Campus Dr. in Evanston, IL. You may download Directions and a Map here.

A campus map and the surrounding area can be found here. This will be helpful if you are walking from nearby hotels.

Directions to Northwestern University can be found here.

Directions to the hotels can be found by clicking on their websites (listed below).

Transportation:

If you are FLYING IN, it will take approximately 30-45 minutes from O’Hare and 45-60 minutes from Midway.

Three cab services familiar with Evanston are Norshore Cab (800-244-9200), American Taxi (800-244-1177) and 303 Cab (800-255-5303). Call to arrange for pick up after you land. They have cars at the airport, so the wait will not be long. (We do NOT recommend going to the cab stand). BE SURE TO ASK FOR THE FLAT RATE TO EVANSTON. It should be close to $30.00.

Continental Airport Express is a shared van service to/from O'Hare Airport and Midway Airport. A one-way trip is $25.00 and round-trip is $46.00. Call 1-888-284-3826 to reservations.

For Limousine service call ABC Limousine (800-258-4935).
