Interdepartmental Biological Sciences Program (IBiS)

IBiS, a Ph.D. program on the Evanston campus, features more than 60 faculty members from diverse departments including Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Cell Biology (BMBCB), Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Neurobiology and Physiology, and the Evanston Northwestern Healthcare Research Institute. The expanded curriculum prepares students for careers in academia, government, industry, and teaching.

Students in this program receive broad initial training, then specialize in a specific area. Graduate study in the doctoral program has four significant components: research, course work, teaching, and independent learning through seminars and interaction with other scientists. The primary goal of the doctoral program is to encourage the development of an independent, creative research scientist.

Graduate students are also very active in their program. For more information check out the IBiS Student Organization (ISO).

The Medical Scientist Training Program, NU Medical School (MSTP)

The MSTP program is a M.D./Ph.D. program on both the Chicago and Evanston campuses. The MSTP program prepares qualified students for careers in biomedical research or academic medicine as well as clinical practice.
