Graduate Students
We welcome highly motivated graduate students. Interested students must apply to and enroll in one of several graduate degree programs before choosing an advisor. Students wishing to join the Widom lab may do so through several different programs:
The Interdepartmental Biological Sciences (IBiS) Ph.D. program
Students wishing to emphasize biology during their graduate training may choose the IBiS program. The IBiS program has considerable flexibility, allowing students to explore interdisciplinary training or move successfully from another field into biology. The IBiS program welcomes applications from students with a range of backgrounds, including biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, and engineering.
The Department of Chemistry Ph.D. program
Students wishing to emphasize Chemistry during their graduate training may choose the Chemistry Department Ph.D. program. This training program allows considerable flexibility, and welcomes applications from students with diverse backgrounds.
The Molecular Biophysics Training Program
Students specifically interested in molecular biophysics can benefit from support from, and participation in, the Molecular Biophysics Training Program. Interested students must also enroll in either the IBiS or Chemistry Ph.D. programs.
The Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) M.D. / Ph.D. program
The Medical Scientist Training Program is an intensive combined M.D. and Ph.D. program. The M.D. training is carried out at our Chicago campus and many area hospitals, while the Ph.D. research is carried out in our Evanston campus laboratory.
Master’s Degree program in Bioinformatics
A new Master’s Degree program in Bioinformatics will soon become available. Interested students may contact Dr. Widom by e-mail for more information. The Widom lab has multiple research opportunities for Master’s degree students wishing to carry out research in bioinformatics.
